Improve your GCP infrastructure with VyOS
VyOS Universal Router for Google Cloud
VyOS is a 100% open source, community-driven network OS designed to reshape networking from a continuous loop of troubleshooting into a series of easily manageable, well-defined processes. We offer an advanced all-in-one network OS that is more than a simple router or firewall.
Combine Google technologies, open source software and Google-backed security with VyOS to ensure the connectivity necessary for your operations.
Common Use Cases
You can deploy VyOS from the Google Cloud marketplace without having to worry about additional requirements or hardware specifications.
Connection
Connect your Google Cloud infrastructure to remote sites using a plethora of tunneling and encryption protocols: GRE, VXLAN, IPSec, IPIP, SIT.
Security
Provide secure access for road warrior users with a VPN concentrator: PPTP, L2TP, OpenVPN, WireGuard.
Confidentiality
Limit access to sensitive data or valuable resources by means of a powerful firewall: stateful, zone-based, with source and destination NAT.
Management
Manage your network and control the traffic flow from a centralized hub – the VyOS command line interface.
The “HOW”
The combination of Google Cloud console, VyOS CLI, and simple configuration and automation management with DevOps tools of your choice lets you gain control of your network.
The best part? You can deploy VyOS on GCP using the prebuilt image from the marketplace. No additional requirements, and the entire setup takes as little as 8 steps:
Open your project on the Google Cloud Console.
Navigate to the “SSH Keys” tab from the “Metadata” page and add “vyos” with “vyos” as username and ssh-rsa key.
Open the VyOS solution on GCP Marketplace and click “Launch on Compute Engine”.
Adjust the options on the deployment page:
- Enter the instance name
- Select the zone
- Select the machine type with respect to your traffic, features and other requirements
- Select the network to connect the interface
- Enable IP forwarding
You can see a link to the newly created compute instance on the right side of the page after the deployment process is complete.
Open the settings tab and add additional network tags if you need more ports on the instance.
Open the “VM instances” page in Google Cloud Console, or click the instance link directly to open the details and check its external IP.
Use your SSH client with the private key for the “vyos” user and connect to the instance.
The “Why”
Reliable
Utilize the full power of Google’s 100+ edge locations while VyOS enables you to diversify connections through the support of its failover variants.
Cost-efficient
VyOS is essentially a centralized performance and management solution, which effectively eliminates the need to invest in and maintain multiple computing instances.
Scalable
The only thing limiting your performance with VyOS is the amount of available computing resources. Need more juice? Move to a more powerful instance and process more traffic without a hitch.
Secure
Safely connect your cloud environment, office and dedicated infrastructure to an array of VPN technologies, including DMVPN.
DevOps-ready
You can deploy and manage your GCP network infrastructure using DevOps tools of your choice, including Hashicorp Terraform and Red Hat Ansible.
Open-source
VyOS is a community-driven project. Our entire codebase is open for auditing, bespoke image builds and your contributions.
