Open Networking, Built by the People Who Run It
VyOS began as a community that refused to let powerful open networking decay. More than a decade later, we're the team behind one of the world's most deployed open-source network operating systems.
Our Story
In 2013, when Brocade discontinued the community edition of Vyatta, a group of engineers refused to let an open network operating system disappear. They forked the last community release and shipped VyOS 1.0 on December 22, 2013.
What began as a volunteer effort to keep the project alive grew into a global-presence company, VyOS Networks. The throughline never changed: networking software should be open, inspectable, and owned by the people who run it.
Why We Do This
Open by Conviction
The infrastructure people depend on shouldn't be a black box. Openness is our starting point, not a feature we added.
Enterprise-Grade Because It's Open, Not Despite It
Code anyone can inspect, backed by the support, stability, and accountability production networks require. Auditability and assurance in the same platform.
Engineer-Led
We build the network OS we want to operate ourselves, and we answer to the people who run it, not to a sales-driven roadmap.

Life at VyOS
We're a global distributed team, working in the open and close to the code. The people who build VyOS are the same people who use and support it. This is who we are.
